New age, Old age, Space age…Titanic
A visit to Belfast these days offers a welcome return to the feel-good factor. Whether it’s as a fan of all things Titanic, or all things ‘Game of Thrones’, this new harbour area throws all sorts of shapes at you.
This location contains the home of the ‘Belfast Giants’ ice hockey team, the birth place of the ill-fated Titanic and of course the production area for ‘Game of Thrones’.
The huge world-famous cranes of Harland & Wolff provide an imposing reminder of Belfast’s ship building past. While the fine straight lines of the Titanic building offers a modern approach to the history of the area.
This shipyard has a very strange relationship with the people of Belfast. Looked upon with pride and awe from the East of the city, and looked upon with indifference, and very much begrudged by some (more-so the older generations), in the West.
It’s chequered past employment policy’s and perceived bias towards those to the East of the city, has always divided the opinion of this, still operational, throw-back to the great ship building days.
These days you are more likely to see a huge oil rig getting re-furbished, sitting along side the world’s finest cruise liners bringing visitors to the city.
Keep them coming!
