I last saw your face, in a watercolour sky…

..as seabirds argued, a long goodbye!

Seagull and moon

“I took your kiss, on the spray of the new line star.

You gotta live with your dreams,

don’t make them so hard.

And these are the hands…that built America.”

(Written by Paul Hewson and Dave Evans)

The meaningful and poignant lyrics of a song depicting the mass emigration of the Irish to America around 1845.

This is the second verse referencing the fateful maiden voyage of the Titanic (new line star). The last verse pays homage to those who lost their lives on September 11th in New York.

Even today an estimated 11% of the population of America is of Irish descent. The reality of their new life in America was not a pleasant one at first. But I guess it turned ok in the end?
