Part one…The Castle
When the high king looked down from his castle in the clouds, I wonder if his feelings resembled these?
Today was very cold. The winter blue sky broken only by the very occasional single cloud, the residents of the castle, the villains of the peace, or the noise of mankind.
To reach these heights one must put on the walking boots, hope the weather holds and accept that the high ground belongs to you only until nature ultimately takes it back.
Set high above the five counties on view, these castle ruins in County Laois in Ireland suggests to the visitor that any time spent on this ground…is borrowed time.
Sign after sign suggested that I didn’t belong here. But I stayed just long enough to witness the events unfolding above and below me…
